UNESCO Memory of the World International Register

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization - UNESCO – Memory of the World International Register Committee inscribed the manuscripts, preserved in the National Archives of Georgia, in the memory of world register in 2013 and 2015.

In 2013, the committee positively decided the issue and the nomination submitted by the National Archives of Georgia – Vakhushti Batonishvili’s "Geographical Atlas" and "Description of the Kingdom of Georgia" – entered in the Memory of the World International Register.

"Description of the Kingdom of Georgia" and "Geographical Atlas" gives the first comprehensive geographical description of the historic territory of Georgia and remains the basis for studying the geography of the Caucasus region in the Georgian cartographic description.

In 2013, the National Archives of Georgia presented the UNESCO Memory of the World International Register the Newest Important Material, 8 Handwritten Handbook of Ancient Tradition: "Ancient Georgian Manuscripts Preserved in the National Archives of Georgia". After a two-year review, UNESCO once again recognized the materials of the National Archives as an important part of World Cultural Heritage and included all submitted manuscripts inscribed in the Memory of the World International Register.

In the nomination - "Ancient Georgian manuscripts preserved in the National Archives of Georgia" include:

1. Anbandidi Gospel, 13th century.

2. Plaster, 10th century.

3. Lectionary, 10th century

4. Neumatic Hymns, 10th-11th centuries and palimpsests:

5. Georgian Palimpsest. Bottom layer: Nuskhuri. Upper layer: historical document - 1440/1462 year. Charter of donation to the Chorepiscopus Daniel Nekisdze from Iovane, the Archbishop of Manglisi and Tbilisi.

6. Bilingual Palimpsest. Lower layer: Armenian Asomtavruli; 10th century. Upper layer: historical document – 1441 years, renewal of the charter of immunity of King Alexander the Great to the Makuchadzes.

7. Bilingual Palimpsest. Lower layer: Armenian Asomtavruli; 10th century; presumably, the canonical text. Upper layer: historical document - December 25, 1447. Charter of Immunity of King George VIII.

8. Georgian Palimpsest. Bottom layer: Nuskhuri; Top chronological order of the date – 9th century. Upper layer: angular nuskhuri; Triodion of the 13th-14th centuries.
