Appeal to the Peoples of the World

"The Supreme Council of the Republic of Georgia appeals to the peoples of the world, all peoples of good will, to support the will of the people fighting for the ideals of freedom, democracy and justice, not to permit to use force against it and to promote the recognition and establishment of the Republic of Georgia in the Commonwealth of Democratic States."

Zviad Gamsakhurdia informs the world community that a universal referendum was held in the Republic of Georgia on March 31, 1991, during which the population unanimously supported the recognition of Georgia's independence on the basis of the Act of the Independence of Georgian of May 26, 1918.

The Act of Restoration of Independence was based on the referendum held in Georgia on March 31, 1991 with the question "Do you agree with the restoration of state independence of Georgia on the basis of the Act of Independence of May 26, 1918?"

 

90.57% of the voters took part in the voting, in total 3,302,572 people. 99.08% of the participants supported the restoration of Georgia's independence.

Zviad Gamsakhurdia ended his speech at the solemn sitting of the Supreme Council of Georgia on the Day of Restoration of Independence as follows:

 

"The declaration of the restoration of Independence of Georgia on April 9 is symbolic, because on this day the fate of Georgia was decided on this day! On April 9, the souls of the martyrs are looking at us and rejoice in the heavenly light, as their will has been fulfilled, the will of the Georgian nation has been fulfilled!

Long live the Independent Georgia!
