The Minister of Justice of Georgia, Thea Tsulukiani, General Director of The National Archives of Georgia, Teona Iashvili and the Majoritarian MP of Telavi, Gela Samkharauli will open a Territorial Organ of the National Archives of Georgia - the Regional Archive of Kakheti in Telavai on February 18, 12:00 p.m. (Telavi, Rustaveli ave. 93).
This will be another beautiful building of Telavi, where the documents of the last 100 years of Kakheti region will be preserved. At the same time, the Regional Archive of Kakheti will be another host of the cultural events in Kakheti region.
The depositories of Archive building are organized according to the modern standards where the security measures and the storage conditions are protected.
Three-floor-building of the archive was entirely reconstructed during the last 6 months. Besides of document storages and working offices, there are newly created exhibition and reading halls. The first exhibition is dedicated to the subject of vine and vineyard.
In the foyer of the archive building there is a permanent exhibition where the ancient manuscripts and documents, views of region and photos of the various architectural monuments of Kakheti are represented.
The documents of the Telavi, Akhmeta, Kvareli, Lagodekhi, Sagarejo, Sighnaghi, Dedophlistskharo and Gurjaani archives will be located at the Regional Archive of Kakheti.
The first archival institution in Kakheti region was opened in Telavi, in 1930. This archive also covered the Archival Bureaus of Akhmeta and Kvareli. The District Archive of Sighnaghi with their Archival Divisions of Lagodekhi and Dedophlistskharo was created in 1935. The Archive was also created in Gurjaani with Archival Division of Sagarejo in 1937.
Step by step all the archival divisions were formed into the district archives and during the decades eight functioning district archives were in Kakheti region. In 2010, all district archives were subordinated to the National Archives of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia.
The Regional Archive Building of Kakheti was opened on February 18, 2015 and all the archives of Kakheti region are located there. The Regional Archive of Kakheti stores the documents from 1920. The documents represent the social and cultural life of the cities and villages of Kakheti, the stages of infrastructural development, information about the demography and working activities of the local government.
Archival materials also represent the information about the local educational institutions, Vine making factories, hydroelectric stations, factories, theaters and houses of culture, resorts, hospitals, agricultural organizations.
Besides, the private fonds of the famous teachers, poets, artists, agronomists, engineers, etc. are also preserved at The Regional Archive of Kakheti.
