Summer School – “The First Democratic Republic of Georgia”

The National Archives of Georgia, with the support of “Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation” organizes Summer School on the subject of “The First Democratic Republic of Georgia (1918-1921)”, on 17-23 July, 2013.

Presentation of the project was held today at the exhibition hall of the National Archives. Photo and written documents of the period of the First Republic was exhibited there. David Jandieri, Deputy Minister of Justice was participating in the event, who spoke about the importance of the research of the First Republic’s history.

Teona Iashvili, General Director of the National Archives noted that the National Archives of Georgia preserves the precious materials from the period of the First Democratic Republic. Its research will deepen the knowledge of Georgian and foreign scientists about the history if Georgia in 1918-1921.
Anton Vacharadze, principal investigator of the Summer School, director of the Central Historical Archive, mentioned during the presentation that the event will unify 15 participants, among them 10 foreign and 5 Georgian citizens. The goal of the project is to acquaint the foreign and Georgian participants with the political, economic, social and cultural existence of the First Democratic Republic of Georgia; to inform the foreign scientists about the documents of 1918-1921, preserved at the National Archives, concerning the region of Georgia and Caucasus.

Leading Georgian experts will read 23 lectures for attendees during the 7 days. There will be 5 modules: Democratic Institutes; Republic and Foreign Countries; Military Affairs; Economic, Culture, Religion, Human Rights, Mass-Media; Practice. Sharing of opinions in frames of roundtable debates will be organized as well. The participants will be taken to cultural sightseeing tours, museums; they will get acquainted with primary archival sources, photos and cinematography of the respective period.
