Exhibition regarding Sargis Kakabadze is extended

The exhibition “Sargis Kakabadze” will be extended at the Exhibition Pavilion of the National Archives of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia till the end of August.

The exhibition contains material preserved in the family archive of historian, philologist and archivist Sargis Kakabadze: Kakabadze family photos and documents, unpublished and completely unknown scientific works, archaeological items belonging to Sargis Kakabadze, including rare numismatic materials; interesting archival documents related to Sargis, David and Artem Kakabadze.

The exhibition was opened on June 7 as part of the International Archives Week. Because of the public interest the exhibition was extended till August 31.

Sargis Kakabadze was one of the founders and later head of the National Archives of Georgia (at the time the Central Archives). Thanks to him, the fonds of the National Archives were filled with important documents.

Sargis Kakabadze's unique personal archive is kept by his granddaughter Tsira Kalandadze. With her assistance the documents  from the Historian's Archive is presented to the wide society at the Exhibition Pavilion of the National Archives for the first time.

Sargis Kakabadze has the richest legacy: monographs, scientific articles, epistolary heritage, photographs, invaluable documentation related to the movement of Georgian treasures, which have not been published so far, and therefore are not in scientific circulation. The current exhibition at the National Archives is a first step in making this material public.
