National Archives Materials Exhibited at Event in Leuville Marking the Centennial of the 1924 Public Uprising

An event commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 1924 public uprising was held in the Georgian estate in Leuville, France.

The event, which included an exhibition of materials preserved in the National Archives, a scientific conference, and a performance by the ensemble "Georgian Voices," was opened by Georgia's Minister of Culture and Monument Protection Tea Tsulukiani, Minister of Justice Rati Bregadze, and Members of Parliament Eliso Bolkvadze, Tengiz Sharmanashvili, and Beka Odisharia.

The Minister of Justice spoke about the role of the 1924 uprising in shaping national consciousness and noted that documents and materials depicting the movement are now available on the National Archives website.

The exhibition prepared by the National Archives highlights various forms of the anti-Soviet national movement (local uprisings, peaceful demonstrations, appeals to the international community, etc.), the role of the Georgian émigré government in the movement, the stages of planning the 1924 uprising, its failure, and the subsequent wave of repression. Archival materials provide information on the scale of repressions carried out by the Soviet authorities. Books from Thierry Berishvili's personal collection were also displayed at the exhibition.

Before the conference began, members of the Georgian delegation paid tribute to the memory of representatives of Georgia’s First Republic émigré government and decorated their graves with flowers.
