The National Archives of Georgia meets the “Professional Day” with the Historically Highest Level of Development

Kvemo Kartli Regional Archive in Rustavi; Kakheti Regional Archive in Telavi; Samegrelo Regional Archive in Zugdidi; The National Archives’ Exhibition Pavilion in Tbilisi, which is very popular among the Tbilisi residents and the city guests; Imereti Regional Archive in Kutaisi, which will be opened in July. This is an incomplete list of those infrastructural projects that have been implemented during the last 4 years for the development and promotion of the National Archives of Georgia.

The Minister of Justice congratulated the employees of the National Archives of Georgia personally and talked about the planned and future projects. Thea Tsulukiani and Deputy Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze, together with the director of the National Archives Teona Iashvili, awarded 32 employees of the Central and Regional Archives with the Certificates of Appreciation and valuable gifts for the devoted work that the archive employees are carrying out for maintenance of the National Treasury.

With the award of the archivists, the Ministry of Justice of Georgia joins the celebration of the International Archives day - June 9. “The Professional Day” celebration was instituted by the International Council on Archives in 2004. This date is related to the establishment of the International Council on Archives by the Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) of the United Nations in 1948. The National Archives of Georgia has been celebrating the International Archives Day for several years already.

Minister of Justice Thea Tsulukiani announced the National Archives as a priority direction at the end of 2012. In recent years, the infrastructural base of the National Archives has been renewed and increased for its existence for the first time.

For the first time in recent decades the new and modern building of the National Archives was built in Rustavi (Kvemo Kartli Regional Archive); Construction of new building of Imereti regional archive is completed in Kutaisi; Laboratory of documents restoration and microfilming was equipped with modern equipment; With the initiation of the Minister of Justice, the exhibition pavilion of the National Archives was opened in 2016, where is the mediathek and branded products’ store; Archival buildings in Abasha, Zugdidi and Telavi have been completely reconstructed and modernized.

The National Archives of Georgia is the largest archival institution in Georgia. The archive keeps the written documents unified in more than 5 million files of about 15 000 fonds, more than 450.000 photographs, up to 20.000 audio documents and over 35.000 films.
