National Archives Deepens Professional Cooperation with European Colleagues

The National Archives of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia participated in the 51st Conference of the European Board of National Archivists (EBNA).

The important professional event was organized by the State Archives of Cyprus.

Within the framework of the conference, the General Director of the National Archives, Theona Iashvili, held meetings with the presidents of the International Council on Archives (ICA) and its European Regional Branch (EURBICA). Together with European colleagues, she discussed prospects for professional cooperation and the sharing of professional experience.

It is noteworthy that, through newly established institutional partnerships, the National Archives will deepen cooperation with the archives of the United Kingdom and Finland in the field of electronic archiving; with the archives of Luxembourg and Poland on infrastructure projects and construction standards; and with the General State Archives of Greece on issues related to document restoration and conservation.

At this year’s conference, European archivists and field specialists reviewed the main challenges and priorities in the archival sphere. Discussions focused on the importance of creating sustainable archival repositories, document digitization, the preservation of documentary heritage, archival migration, international archival cooperation, and the role of archives in preserving cultural memory.

For the National Archives of Georgia, participation in EBNA represents an important professional opportunity and another step toward strengthening international partnerships.
