The National Archives Expanded with New Materials in 2025

In 2025, the collections of the National Archives of Georgia of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia was enriched with 56,594 archival files, 116 film reels, 2,954 photographs, 150 audio recordings, 746 issues of periodicals, 15 books, 3 maps, and other documents.

Among the written records are materials received both from state institutions and private archives, reflecting our country’s recent past as well as its public and cultural life. The collection of historical documents was supplemented with 18 nineteenth-century purchase registers. The map collection of the Scientific Reference Library was enriched with Alexander Gross’s Atlas (London, 1920); Heinrich Berghaus and Carl Fleming’s Map of the Caucasus (Glogau, 1859); and Tommaso Santoni’s Map of the Coast of Sokhumi (Pisa, 1861).

The Film Archive has been enriched with the following feature and documentary films and footage: Levan Tutberidze’s A Trip to Karabakh; I Think I’ll Die Without You; Nazar’s Last Prayer. Andro Chiaureli’s Paganism; Reflection; The Telephone of Kindness; 1992. Merab Japaridze’s The Highest Award; We Are Kurds; and Levan Kitiya’s The Highway and The Crossroads. It also includes scenes from performances staged at the Kote Marjanishvili State Drama Theatre: Giordano Bruno; Court Chronicle; Nest on the Ninth Floor; Dawn of Colchis; Midnight Has Passed, as well as the Theatre production - Such Is Life, and others.

From now on, the Archive’s sound collection will preserve arias performed by opera singers David Gamrekeli, Mary Nakashidze, and Medea Amiranashvili; the 1950 recording of the opera Keto and Kote; the operas Daisi and Abesalom and Eteri; as well as folk songs published by the Georgian Chant Foundation.

Among the photographs transferred to the Archives are images depicting filming locations of Georgian feature films; photographs preserved in the family archive of actor Kakhi Kavsadze; and visual materials from productions of the Batumi Opera Theatre and the Batumi International Opera Music Festival.
