Delegation of the Institute of Social History of Belgium visited the National Archives of Georgia

The National Archives of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia welcomed today the delegation of the Institute of the Social History of Belgium.  The members of the delegation Mrs. Rita Calcoen and Mr. Michel Vermote met Teona Iashvili, general director of the National Archives.

The guests transferred to the head of the National Archives the digital copies of the documents preserved at the archive of the Belgian politician Camille Huysmans. Among the documents are: correspondence of Camille Huysmans connected with Georgia in Brussels, Paris, London, Berlin, Copenhagen, Warsaw and Tbilisi in 1920-22 and 1924; materials, brochures, reports about the political and social-economic conditions of Georgia. It’s worth mentioning that Huysmans was one of the members of the delegation of II International visiting Georgia in 1920. 

During the meeting the parties also discussed the opportunity of organizing an exhibition in Belgium, Gent in 2013. Materials for the exhibition will be chosen from the photo collection of Dimitri Ermakov preserved at the National Archives of Georgia. For the agreement concerning the organizing questions of the exhibition on September 18 National Archives will be visited by Mrs. Anke D’Haene, coordinator of photography exhibitions and education of Historical Houses of Gent and will acquaint with the materials preserved at Audio-Visual and Film Archives.

For information cooperation between the Institute of the Social History of Belgium and the National Archives of Georgia began one year ago.
