International Archives Day – June 9

The exhibition "Three Types of Georgian Alphabet" was held at the National Archives of Georgia for the International Archives Day.

The exposition presents photos of Georgian scripts - manuscripts and historical documents - written in Asomtavruli, Mkheduli and Nuskhuri, which reflect the three stages of the development of Georgian script.

Thematically divided exhibition presents the documents, issued by the Georgian Kings and the Catholicos-Patriarchs, as well as the precious manuscripts, containing palimpsest sheets and miniatures.

Note: The culture of three species of Georgian alphabet has been granted a status of the national monument in 2015. In the same year, Georgia presented "living culture of three species of Georgian alphabet" in the UNESCO to be placed in the list of UNESCO World Intangible cultural Heritage.

It is noteworthy that the International Archives Day was announced on June 9, 2004 at the Congress of the International Council on Archives, held in Vienna. This date is related to the establishment of the International Council on Archives by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1948.

The National Archives of Georgia have been actively celebrating the International Archives Day for several years.
