Dodo Abashidze’s Centennial Exhibition Available on the National Archive’s Website

The 100th anniversary exhibition of actor Dodo Abashidze, organized by the National Archives of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, is now available for viewing online on the National Archives’ website.

The exhibition includes photographs depicting Dodo Abashidze’s theatrical and cinematic roles, portraits, and family archive images. Over 120 photos from around 40 films have been selected from the rich photographic collection of Georgian feature film sets for the exhibition.

Dodo Abashidze’s acting career began in 1949 at the Rustaveli State Drama Theatre. During his 7 years of work there, he performed in more than 20 plays, including roles portrayed by his father, the famous actor Vaniko Abashidze, who was a victim of the 1937 repression.

Since 1954, Dodo Abashidze has begun acting in films. He portrayed more than 50 roles in feature films, including: Bichiko (Chrichina, 1954), Abdushahili (Bashi-Achuki, 1956), Dhvira (The White Caravan, 1963), Omar Margania (Matsi Khvitia, 1966), Sosana (The Great Green Valley, 1967), Mamamze Eristavi (The Right Hand of the Grand Master, 1969), Alexander (Light in Our Windows, 1969), Pristavi (The Melodies of Vera Quarter, 1973), Iasoni (The First Swallow, 1975), Papa Gabriel (Summit, 1976), Varlam (Racha, My Love, 1977), Arkifo Seturi (Data Tutashkhia, 1977), Qvarqvare (Qvarqvare, 1978), Giorgi (Roots, 1987), and others.
