The primary manuscripts of the Act of Restoration of State Independence of Georgia of April 9, 1991 (revised by President Zviad Gamsakhurdia and Academician Joni Khetsuriani) will henceforth be preserved in the National Archives of Georgia of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia.
This decision was made by the Presidium of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences during today's meeting. The participants heard a report by Joni Khetsuriani titled "35 Years Since the Restoration of Georgia's State Independence," where the former Minister of Justice recalled the history of drafting the text of the Act of Independence. He also expressed a wish to transfer the historical document depicting this process from his personal collection to the National Archives of Georgia.
Participating in the meeting alongside members of the Academy of Sciences' Presidium were: Deputy Minister of Justice Merab Turava, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science and the Parliament of Georgia, and other invited guests.
Teona Iashvili, General Director of the National Archives, noted at the meeting that this crucial document related to the history of Georgia's statehood is a valuable acquisition for the National Archives' funds.
A digital version of the document will be available to any interested person through the National Archives' Researchers' Hall, as well as via its website.
